Much better update today than yesterday. First off, the candy hearts blanket update!

So that's the completed panel. I need to make 4 more for this to be done. I don't think I'm going to get it finished in February here. I really like how it looks though, and I solved the 'count drift' problem by realizing that I was counting it wrong and then paying more attention to what I was doing, and double counting if I lost count. It is taking quite a long time, though.

Now, I have an update on the shawl!

I am over half done on it now, but progress is a little slower than I would like for it, too. Fortunately it goes faster with every second row, so that's nice. I'm excited for what it will look like completed.

Finally, I'm going to move away from crochet to show off my very first attempt at cooking a cheesecake! Behold!

Doesn't it look... overdone?

Today is an update on the Candy Heart Blanket! It' being made from Bernat Softee Baby, 100% acrylic. The pattern is by Michelle Crean by Treasured Heirlooms Crochet
http://www.treasuredheirloomscrochet.com/

So this is made in 5 panels connected together. Right now I'm working my first panel. Here is it half done.

And then at this point the hearts switch so they're pointed the other direction.

I am having difficulty keeping stitches. I keep finding myself with too many or not enough, which makes the sides very bumpy right now. I don't know if the border will help fix that or I'll have to completely redo it in order for the panel to have nice smooth edges. We'll see. Hopefully my next panel will be better. Anyway, I am hoping to put in more time on this, since it's taking far longer than I would like. I'm hoping to get this panel finished and a good start on the next one by tomorrow. We'll see how successful I am, though!

Anybody out there have any advice how to make sure I'm keeping good with stitches? Even when I count I end up wrong... I get distracted...

It's been a bit of a weird day today, and I haven't done any crocheting. So, instead of an update on the candy hearts project, I'm going to show off yet another one of my awesome creations. This is one that I made for my niece when she was born. I got the pattern off the internet,

I did find the pattern for the granny squares off the internet, form here

The pattern shown is all white, but I just switched from the flower colour to green for the background at about round 9 I think. It's been a while since I made it. I think this has to be one of my favourite things that I've created. It was a lot of work but it turned out beautiful. And if you'd like of one these yourself but don't know how to crochet or don't have the time, just leave a comment below or contact me through facebook, and I'll get back to you!

Hope you are all doing well! Have a great night and keep smiling.

I put in 2 hours weaving end on the Granny Waves blanket today, and the results are... well, I don't like how the edges where I'm weaving them in look, so I'm definitely going to put an edging on it. It'll probably be a simple picot edging, but I am happy that the weaving is be going quicker than it did with the other two projects. Anyway, here is the latest.

So yeah. Lots faster. I'm over half done the weaving in of ends. And then there will be a little bit of extra crocheting and it'll be done! We'll see how long it takes to finish it off, though. Now it's on to the next project. Ice Chip Mitts.

For these I'm using the same yarn as the beanie and necklet. The pattern is by Kathy L. North in Designs by KN
I have 5 days to complete this project, and I'm interested to see how long it will take me exactly, because I've only made mitts a couple times before. Anyways, we'll see what tomorrow brings!

Sunday, 1 January 2017

Welcome, my blog-followers. As it is January first, I suppose this is my first 'official' day of my 365 days of crocheting. The Granny Waves blanket is coming along quite nicely, although it's not done yet. Here's the update pictures...

So this is the blanket with one full skein of the white and blue each completed. I didn't measure it, but it's pretty big. There is going to be plenty of leftovers I think, though. I still might make it a little longer than the width, but we'll see. I'll probably get it to length and then weave in ends before deciding what to do next.

Anyway, this is my current status:

I'm pretty happy with how it's looking. It's also nice and soft. So now I'm at a total of about twelve hours and right at thirty-three inches. Only five inches to go. But the most tedious part is yet to come. Weaving ends. Out of all the parts of crocheting, it's the part I like the least. And because of the very many colour changes with this one, there are a lot ends to weave.

Well, tomorrow is supposed to start a new project, the Brain Waves Beanie by Liz McQueen.

The pattern calls for dark blue, green, light blue and grey, but I'm going to substitute in yellow and black because those are the colours I have right now. I find that 'beanies' (or toques as we Canadians say) are excellent for using up old scraps of yarn. As long as it's the all the same weight it's good. The calendar calls for this pattern to be from Jan 2 - 6, but I don't imagine it will actually take me that long.

Anyway, thanks for reading, and I'll update tomorrow! Happiness to everybody!

Tip to any beginner crocheters reading this - make sure you weave in the ends good and tight, otherwise they'll pop out and ruin your project. If possible, it's great to separate the strands of yarn and weave them in opposite directions. This can leave the strands weaker ad more easily broken, though, so be careful.)

So because the Granny Waves blanket is a blanket, even though it is a baby blanket, I decided to get a head start on it. I very much doubt that I can get it done on Jan 1st even though I did start early. I am really liking how it's coming together so far. The baby blue and white together have a great icy sort of melding to them. The yarn is also super soft, which I love.

Anyway, this is how much I've gotten done so far;

It is about 12-13 inches long right now, and it's taken me just over five hours to get this much done. The width is the 38 inches that the pattern calls for, and so if I decide to go for the square (I might make it longer as I will probably have some yarn left over) I'm about 1/3 done. In that case, it's probably going to take almost 15-16 hours to complete the whole thing, provided that I don't end up with serious snags that I have to work through. I really don't see how it's supposed to be done in two days! Unless of course the reason it's put on Dec 31 and Jan 1 is because I'm supposed to spend New Year's Eve crocheting.

Which I might end up doing after all. We'll see! Remember to sign up for emailed updates at the bottom of the page.

So my calendar starts on December 31, with a Granny Waves blanket by Bernat.

The pattern calls for Berat Baby Coordinates, but I couldn't find colours that I particurily liked, so I'll be using Gernat's Baby Luv. (PSA, a percentage of proceeds from Baby Luv sales go to the Children's Miracle Netwok.) I chose baby blue (lot 16054) and white (lot 160562).

It's a super soft yarn that's 100% acrylic, and contains a little less yarn than the Baby Coordinates, so the blanket is probably going to end up slightly smaller than the 38 inch square the pattern calls for, but I think that will be fine. If need be, I can just add a trim around it afterwards. I like those better than raw edges anyway.

The calendar only gives me two days to do this whole blanket... we'll see how well that goes!

See you tomorrow and keep happy!

Hi and welcome to my blog!

I'm Becky, and I'm here to crochet. I'll be blogging every day in 2017. Let me tell you a little about myself.

I'm Canadian, and I learned to crochet with my sister - we're self-taught! I love to crochet, and I love the various patterns that can be found. There is never enough time in the day to crochet, in my opinion. I tend to crochet while watching stuff on cable or Netflix. Right now I have a bit of an obsession with shows like Murdoch Mysteries, Master Chef Canada (did I mention I'm Canadian?), My Cat From Hell, Avatar: The Last Airbender, and a few others.

I also have two betta fish! Prince Thunderbolt is my older one, and he is a blue and red crown tail. Phineas, the prince's valet, is a half-moon that I adopted. He had some serious fin rot when I got him, but after just two weeks I can see marked improvement and fin regrowth. If you can't tell, I'm a crazy fish lady! I would literally have a tank in every room of my house if I could.

Now onto the crocheting!

This was a gift that I was given in 2012, and it contains a calendar of crochet projects. Many of them are projects that will take multiple days, but I'll still upload my day-by-day progress with them. Everything featured on this blog will be for sale! Details will be posted with the completed projects.

Well, I think that's about it for now. Please come again and check out my projects!
